Delhi Metro gives Diwali gift to passengers, free high-speed Wi-Fi facility at all stations of Yellow Line

The gift of Diwali has been given to Delhiites by Delhi Metro. Keeping in view the network connectivity issue in the Underground Metro, Metro has announced to provide free Wi-Fi facility to Metro passengers at all the stations of Yellow Line. Soon preparations are on to provide Wi-Fi inside the metro train as well.

DMRC has now given a special gift to the metro passengers who have been facing many problems while traveling in the metro for the last one and a half years due to the restrictions related to covid.

In a new initiative, DMRC has started free high-speed Wi-Fi services at all stations of Metro’s Yellow Line from Sunday to provide better facilities and improve their travel experience to the passengers traveling in the Metro.

Passengers will be able to avail this facility at all 37 stations of the Metro line between HUDA City Center to Samaypur Badli. Through this service started during the beginning of the festive season, many problems of the passengers will also be removed.

According to DMRC officials, most of the stations on the Yellow Line are underground, where passengers were already facing some issues related to mobile network and internet connectivity. In such a situation, with the facility of free high-speed internet, passengers will not only be able to make WhatsApp calling, but will also be able to send their important messages and e-mails etc.

Since a large number of such passengers also travel on this route, who travel between Delhi and Gurgaon every day for business, those passengers will also get a lot of benefit from the introduction of this new facility. According to DMRC Executive Director Anuj Dayal, more than 330 ‘access points’ have been installed at all 37 stations of Yellow Line to provide uninterrupted internet service with high speed to the passengers. This free Wi-Fi service will also prove to be a boon for thousands of students visiting the North Campus of Delhi University.

While traveling on this line, when passengers search for a new Wi-Fi network in their mobile, they will see a network named ‘OUI DMRC FREE Wi-Fi’, on which they can login and use high speed free Wi-Fi service. Will be able To join a free Wi-Fi network, first go to the Wi-Fi menu of the phone and select the ‘OUI DMRC FREE Wi-Fi’ network.

After that a window will open, in which the phone number or e-mail ID has to be entered. On entering, an OTP will be sent through message or through e-mail in the mail box, after entering which will have to be OK on the terms and conditions and then on clicking connect, you will be connected to the free Wi-Fi network.

Preparation to provide Wi-Fi facility in trains also

Officials said the ‘OUI DMRC FREE Wi-Fi’ service is already available on the Blue Line and Airport Express Line. However, these services were partially suspended during the COVID pandemic. But now these services have been resumed. More than 400 ‘Access Points’ have been provided for seamless internet connectivity at 50 Metro stations of Blue Line of Delhi Metro, while over 50 Access Points have been provided at 6 stations of Airport Express Line.

This free Wi-Fi service is being provided by a consortium led by M/s Techno Sat Com. Along with metro stations, DMRC is now striving to provide Wi-Fi service inside metro trains as well. It is expected that within the next one year, this service will also be started inside metro trains.

However, installing access points and upgrading the system in the operating trains being used for passenger services is also a challenging task in itself.
